What You Need to Know About COVID-19

WHAT ARE CORONAVIRUSES?
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

WHAT IS COVID-19?
COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. Both the new virus and the disease were unknown before the outbreak in Wuhan (China) in December 2019.

HOW DOES COVID-19 SPREAD?
The disease can spread from person to person through droplets from the nose or mouth that are expelled when an infected person coughs, exhales, or sneezes. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person, so other people can catch COVID-19 if they touch these objects or surfaces and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth. Infection can also occur if they inhale these droplets.
